Smallholding Sense: Smallholding and the Law

When you first become a smallholder, the legalities and paperwork are really quite straightforward and non-daunting and depending on your subsequent level of activity, they may remain quite uncomplicated. Nonetheless, there are some key legal requirements for everyone starting up that you must have in place and/or be aware of. Equally there are welfare guidelines that you are 'expected' to follow, some of which are also statutory! Statutory requirements and guidelines do differ across the UK according to countries (England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland) and even counties so do make sure the information you read/receive is relevant to your location.

The Celebrating Smallholding UK website went live in September 2019 - as each section grows, we will add more headings and subheadings and maybe even an index to make it easy to see what is available and to find the content required.

We welcome contributions from other smallholders so if you have articles/advice/tips to share, please get in touch by email jack@celebratingsmallholdinguk.org.uk
